If you inherited in Germany, it is very likely that you need a so-called „certificate of inheritance“ for several purposes – but what are its costs?
The certificate of inheritance serves to confirm your position as heir of an estate and many institutions, particularly banks, ask for such a document (unless you have a public will, which is a testament prepared by a public notary). As almost anything you need from a court in Germany, the certificate carries certain costs.
The amount of the costs depends on the value of the estate at the time of the death of the testator. The court will ask for a full fee which is defined by the appendix to the Law on Costs for non-disputed procedures by Courts and Notaries (GNotKG).
To give a few examples:
Value of estate | Amount of fee |
---|---|
3.000 € | 33 € |
50.000 € | 165 € |
125.000 € | 300 € |
500.000 € | 935 € |
1.000.000 € | 1.735 € |
5.000.000 € | 8.135 € |
